About Ovarian Cysts
An ovarian (follicle) cyst is a small fluid-filled sac that forms when an egg stops developing at the mid-follicle stage. Most women develop at least one cyst in their lifetime. Cysts often cause no symptoms, and symptoms may only appear as they grow. Most ovarian cysts go away on their own without treatment. Sometimes a cyst can burst, causing severe pain and bleeding and a higher risk of infection, which is why ovarian cysts need proper diagnosis. If a cyst grows or does not go away, Mr Karoshi can recommend treatment to shrink or remove it at his Harley Street clinic in London.

What causes ovarian cysts in women?
Many ovarian cysts form naturally as part of the menstrual cycle when an egg does not fully develop or release. Other types, such as dermoid cysts or endometriomas, have different causes and may need specialist assessment.
