Fibroids (Myoma): Fibroid Treatment in London
About
About Uterine Fibroids
Uterine fibroids are the most common tumours in women of reproductive age, affecting about 30% of women. They are non-cancerous growths of smooth muscle in the wall of the womb. Fibroids become more common with age, tend to grow during pregnancy and shrink after the menopause. When they cause symptoms, such as heavy periods, tummy pain, needing to pass urine often or difficulty getting pregnant, they can have a big impact on quality of life. Mr Karoshi, a fibroid specialist in London, offers a full range of fibroid treatment at Harley Street, from medicines to surgery and incision-free options.

The Four Types of Fibroids
Submucosal fibroids — grow into the cavity of the womb
Subserosal fibroids — grow outwards from the outer surface of the womb
Intramural fibroids — sit entirely within the wall of the womb
Pedunculated fibroids — submucosal or subserosal fibroids attached by a stalk

Latest Technique: Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) of Fibroids
This newer system uses real-time ultrasound inside the womb to guide targeted radiofrequency energy. It treats fibroids that cause symptoms, with no incision. Suitability is checked first with a consultation and fibroid mapping.
